Cole Glasson Places 2nd in WKA Mini Max |
Cole and his new race team traveled to South Bend, Indiana to participate in the WKA Round 2 National Series. This was the first weekend that Cole was with his new race team, Alonso Kart USA which is owned by Andy DeFrancesco of DeFrancesco Racing. The team was in the Tony Kart Florida tent and was working on the new Alonso Karts to get them tuned in. The race weekend started with the Friday night race where Cole participated in the Mini Max race where he came in 2nd to Santino Ferruci with Derek Sobel close behind. He then worked the next two days to get the new Alonso Kart dialed into the track. On Saturday we qualified 27 out of 34 and on Sunday moved up to 22 out of 34. We had a lot of ups and downs throughout the weekend from stalling the engine in Saturday's prefinal and starting in the back of the pack- finished 25 in Saturday's final and then having a massive wreck in Sunday's final after getting into the 17th position. All in all we had a great weekend as the kart was getting within a half second of the leaders. A special thanks to the team- Andy DeFrancesco, Bobby Wilson, Ben Cruttenden, and Doug Sharp for the endless work on the karts throughout the weekend. |
Cole Glasson Wins 2nd National Title |
As quoted by Ekarting News, "The youngest drivers of the IKF Road Race Grand Nationals put on a great 20-minute show with three drivers battling for the win. Cole Glasson paced the field the majority of the race with Chris Clark and Beck Duggleby on his bumper. As they came around for the checkered, Glasson was leading the way with Clark looking to slingshot by him. At the line, Glasson had the edge by 0.044-seconds. Duggleby was a close third while Kinsley Cook beat Michael Schneider for fourth."
Cole as well as several members of the KRS Team arrived in Decatur, Texas to compete in the 2009 IKF Road Race Grand Nationals which was held at Eagles Canyon Raceway. The 2.1 mile course was quickly tuned in for Cole by his driving coach and tuner, DJ Ortiz. During Wednesday's practice, Cole was running on average two seconds a lap faster than the field. His speed continued on Saturday mornings practice session where he found himself over 3 seconds a lap faster than the field. However, as usual, the competitors found speed and the draft to create a dramatic race for the coveted "Duffy Trophy". The entire race had the lead pack of three, Cole, Chris, and Beck within kart lengths each lap, there was one lead change in the second to the last lap where Cole fell to third, but retook the lead prior to the white flag where he held off a late charge by Chris and Beck beating them by only 4/100th's to claim his 2nd National Title.

Cole Has Best Finish in National Series |
Cole Glasson arrived with his team in New Castle, Indiana on Wednesday night to try and have a good showing at the inaugural Championship Karting International Grand Prix of New Castle. To date, Cole has not finished in the top 10 in these events and his goal was to do so this weekend.
Cole started out practice on Thursday several seconds off the pace of the front runners and while he continued to make gains each time, he was not getting close enough on the set up. On Friday (after changing the chassis set up completely) he was finally within two seconds of the pole sitter and it was time to qualify. Cole knew how important it was to qualify high in the field, but he missed a timed opportunity to get in the draft during qualifying and he qualified 11th. The good news is this put him on the inside of row 6, the bad news is we had a driver from England that seemed to have a liking for Cole's kart as he took Cole out on three separate occasions during the heat races, almost flipping him at one point. After finishes at the back of the field in each heat race, Cole hit the track on Sunday's practice and turned in the best times of the field. This did two things: proved to Cole that he was a front runner and let the team know that they had the kart, he just needed to get it in the front draft pack. Unfortunately, starting in row 6 made it difficult to get to the front draft pack quick enough to remain with them before they pulled from the field.
Cole ended up finishing 10th in the pre final and 8th in the final thus capturing his goal for the race weekend and also his best finish in these National series. Cole and his team are getting the Cadet chassis close to being setup for these events and will next visit New Jersey for the Championship Karting International Series second race of the season at the end of June. |
Cole Glasson Takes Pole Position by 3/10th's |
Cole Glasson continues to do well in the Mini Max coming from his good performance in South Bend, Indiana. Cole raced locally in Denton, Texas this weekend and looked to be on a sweep before the rains came in. His car was very hooked up this weekend as well as a fast engine as he goes out last in qualifying and passes over half the field during the five minute qualifying session finishing with the fast time of the night at 39.72 on the half mile, 9 turn track. His next closest competitor was Michael Schneider who turned in a 39.95 on the Tornado chassis and Nathan Adds with a 40.02 on the Birel chassis. A special thanks to DJ Ortiz who helped Cole throughout the night. Cole is now preparing to hit the SWRC Regional Race in Norman, Oklahoma an hopes to debut his Alonso Chassis on the Mini Max in that race. |
Cole Glasson Takes Podium in Big Race |
Cole had a great first weekend with his Alonso Kart Team at the SWRC Race in Norman. As soon as he hit the track on Friday, he quickly was in the top 5 fastest karts of the 19 kart field. With Norman being the site of the 2009 Rotax Grand Nationals, the race attracted some of the best racers from the Southwest. When qualifying began on Saturday, Cole was ready and qualified 4th which put him on the outside of row 2. This is when the luck changed. In both the prefinal and final, Cole went off the track as 19 karts made their way into a 135 degree right hand turn pushing speeds of 60 mph. This pushed Cole to the back of the field in both races and he had to fight his way back up to 12th in the prefinal and finished 7th in the final with the 2nd fastest lap times of the field. On Sunday, the luck did not change as we again qualified 4th and again went off in Turn 1 and he had to fight his way back to 11th for the final. The good news is we were finally on the inside and would have a chance to see what Cole could do in the competitive field. His goal was to come out in the top 10 after the first turn and then see how far he could get up in the field. He did not disappoint as he came out of turn 1 in 8th place and by the end of the race, landed a podium spot finishing 3rd and turning the 3rd fastest lap times of the day. He made some incredible passes and closed huge gaps on other racers. Cole's teammate, Devlin DeFrancesco also had a strong showing finishing 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. A special thanks to DeFrancesco Racing / Alonso Kart USA for the support and the crew of Andy DeFrancesco (Team Owner), Bobby Wilson (Crew Chief), Ben Cruttenden (Tuner / Engineer) and Doug Sharp (Engine Builder / Tuner). The race also put Cole only 8 points out of the SWRC Regional Series lead. |
